Close Call

If you look in the corner of Makoa's right eye, you will see a redish yellow patch. On Friday, he and Brin were playing on my bed, they were laughing and giggling, AND Makoa had a stick. I remember staying, "you guys need to calm down, someones gonna get hurt." Sure enough, Koa poked the stick IN his eye. He cried for a second, but then was fine, so we went out to the kitchen to make lunch. When I gave Makoa his, I noticed this big red blood spot on the white of his eye. (It was alot worse then the picture shows now.) Naturally, I panicked a little. I called the doc, they weren't in, so then I called the eye doc and away we went over to Cottonwood.
Know this is for your education:
The doctor said that the white part of the eye is very tough, however the cornea is more sensitive. So, if you hurt the white part of your eye, it will most likely heal on it's own. There are no nerves to make it hurt, but the blood vessels are broken so it's like a bruise. The blood is trapped between the layers of the eye and will heal on it's own after turning colors. You just have to watch for infection. However if you damage the cornea, it will most likely need surgery to be fixed.
We were lucky. Makoa was so good for the doctor, too. He let the doc put drops in his eyes and he even put his head up the the face thing so that the doc could look closely into Makoa's eyes to make sure that there was no cornea damage.
Now you all know what the expect if ever your child puts a stick in there eye! :)
