The Chicks

Oh me, Oh my- what have we gotten ourselves into. :)
I've promised pictures of the chicks and here they are.
Greg and I had this crazy notion that it would be so fun to get chicks and we could have our own eggs and teach the kids responsibility and have a great experience.
Well, it's been a great experience, however if any of the chicks make it to henhood, (is that a word?) it will be a miracle!!!
I don't have a picture of this, but we catch Koa swinging on his belly on the swing with a chick in each hand. He LOVES the chicks.
They are getting so fast, but Koa can still catch them. I think it's becasue he doesn't care where he grabs them at. He's grabbed them by the foot before and then reajusts them in his hand.
Brinlee likes to put on her swimsuit and play in the misters in the coop. I didn't even know that they knew how to turn the misters on. We had to put a nix to that. Chicken poop on feet just grosses me out.
Afton was the instigator of the whole "play in the misters", I'm sure.
Afton is very smart, too. She'll tell you that we got brown leghorn chicks.
These are the pictures that we took Easter Morning.

They are getting so big so fast. they are out of the cute, fluffy chick faze and into the feathery, funny lookin chick faze.
We let them out of the coop everyday to go explore around the yard. (Great fertilizer for our grass.) It really has been fun so far!
The challenge is to keep them separated from Chonee, our dog. When Greg got Chonee, he trained her to be a bird hunting dog. She goes Quail hunting with Greg and is a great bird dog. When we first put the chicks in the coop, I found Koa and Chonee in the coop, too.
Koa is always in the coop with the chicks when I can't find him.
And I know that Chonee is just buying her time. She'll have one in her mouth soon enough.
Greg seems to think that the chicks get big enough and peck at Chonee and she'll leave them alone. I'm not so sure though.
Should I bet Greg on if Chonee will get a chick or not?
I think that I could win this one.

They do grow fast. When you have eggs - I will buy some from you. That is - if the dog doesn't get them first.

Oh, they're just precious! What kind are they? Good luck with the dog! I can't wait to see pictures of your coop!
