May with Mom and Dad...Day 2

Our one week with my mom and dad went by way too fast! And we filled it up with all kinds of adventure. So much that mom and dad needed a vacation from their vacation...

But really coming to Hawaii to visit the Page's isn't about taking it easy, its about enjoying and doing it all. Although, it"s becoming a lesson for me to learn that no matter how hard I try, it is impossible to see all that Maui has to offer in such a short amount of time.

Day 2 with mom and dad...

We headed over to Lahaina. Black Rock is one of our favorite places to take our guests. There is  (maybe) a 30 foot rock cliff that you can jump off of in to crystal clear water. And the snorkeling over there is just beautiful.

We stopped in Lahaina at the Banyan tree. This tree is amazing. It is one tree that is 50 feet tall and a quarter of a mile around with about 10 trunks. The vines that grow from the tree, grow down until they reach the ground and then another trunk is formed. It's very cool to see.
It could be a junglegym all it's own, but no one is allowed to climb it.

This is our favorite hammock store. There is a sister store closer to where we live. And we have two
of these hammocks hanging in our living room.

This shirt was a debate. The road to Hana is a crazy beautiful drive, but to really enjoy it, it takes a whole day. Mom and dad wanted to but didn't want to. We've done it several times, so we didn't want to. Someone in the back of our car seems to get sick each time. So, they decided to save that for next time.

This is Black Rock.

We snorkeled out to the point and mom and dad saw their first sea turtle along with all kinds of beautiful fish and sea life.
Koa and Afton showed off how they jump from the rock. Mom and dad tried but the rock is so hard to climb and sharp on the feet.

Our little snorkeling excursion is actually a funny, scary, interesting little story.

Mom put on her mask and took off in to the water with Koa and Afton. I put mine on and started swimming out to mom. We were just enjoying the water as we waited for dad. He seemed to be taking quite a while and Greg was in the shallow water helping him. So I turned to mom and said I'm going to go see if dad needs help. Mom told me he probally does, he hasn't done this before.
What?
Dad's never snorkeled before?
I had no idea. I guess I just thought that my dad knew how to do everything and has done everything.
So I went in and helped him learn how to use the snorkel. We took a boogie board out with us and I'm so glad we did because we needed it later on.
Dad's feet have arched toes, I don't remember what its called but the flippers were really hurting him and so he took them off and enjoyed the snorkeling so much more.
We were out there for quiet a while, a little over and hour and then it started to get windy so we decided to head in.
This is where our trouble began and that boogie board really came in handy.
I am, also so gratetful that my kids are good strong swimmers.
It took us over 30 minutes to get into the beach.
It should have taken us 5-10 minutes.
We got stuck in a wind channel. It wasn't a true rip tide, but it was similar to one. We were being pulled out and swimming and swimming and not moving.
The kids seem to have missed it or maybe its because they swam under water most of the way, but
my poor dad was exhausted.
He rested on the boogie board and I swam closer to the rocks pulling him on his boogie board into shore.
When all was said and done, from the shore we could see the wind channel that we were in.
I was exhausted as well! We all just sat on the beach for a bit after that!
Later on that day, my dad said that I saved his life. He wasn't going to be able to make it in and he really was scared.
It was quite a learning experience for all of us.
Definetly a memory and a story to tell.

The waves don't look too impressive, but they have a strong undertow and will knock you right over. The kids had so much fun with mom!
I absolutely LOVE this picture below! It's just Happiness!

Love this one too! Brin looks so content!

After Black Rock, we went over to our favorite grinds on the West side, Teddy's Bigger Burgers.
We ate up and then stopped at one more of our favorite beaches on that side of the island, Launiapoko.
We love this beach because the waves are smaller and slow rolling which makes it easier to learn on. Mom was beat, but she wanted to try everything, so up on the paddleboard she went. And she did great!

Mom caught a wave, Look at her go!

My dads legs at the end of the day. Gotta get that first burn, to tan from. Ha!
