August 2017 Happenings

Our life here is at this stage of kids slipping through my fingers. My kids are growing up so fast and I try to take pictures of just day to day stuff so I can remember these fun times.

Greg started swimming with the masters a few nights a week, but he needed some "coaching" from his kids. It was hilarious the first time he swam. We were all watching him. He took off at a good speed and he was almost all the way to the other end of the 25 yard pool when he finally took a breath. Then, he rolled on his back, took and breath and continued in a 360 to go back to swimming. We all just looked at him and each other and thought, "what in the world?"
When he got to the end we said, "Greg, that is not how you breathe in swimming"
In which he replied, "I have to go in a circle to get the water out of my ear."
Oh Boy!
We got him some ear plugs for next time.
Here, Emery is showing him the correct way to breathe.

The girls were searching for some money, so they decided to have a lemonade sale. We had a plethora of eggs at our house as well, so I sent them out for the girls to sell also.
And our kind friends stopped by.

This is a common site coming home. Screwball is the luckiest cat. The whole neighborhood is his home.

This is a common site as well. All the neighborhood kids on the trampoline. I love it.

For Labor Day, our ward hosts a party at Baldwin Beach every year. ( I guess this was in Sept., not Aug.)
This beach changes so much with the tides and waves. This time there was a steep hill and the boys decided to dig holes large enough to crawl into.

While the younger boys were digging holes, the big boys took over the bounce house.

Afton had an ukulele performance at the mall. Seeing as how she's in 8th grade this year, there was no hiding in the back. She was right in the front.

Afton and her good friend, Alina. They have been in ukulele together for the last three years.

My hens have been laying eggs beautifully. I went out to feed one morning and saw this beautiful sight so I decided to go back in, grab my camera, and snap a few photos.

Boomer and Bessie, our bantam chickens.

Emery came home with a ribbon for her watercolor art project. It was chosen to be displayed at the Maui County Fair. I didn't even know until she brought it home.

Swim team practice and meets are in full force.

These two are the best of friends.

And to bring the month to a close was Greg's birthday.

We started to morning with biscuits and gravy, Greg's favorite.

And we let him open his box of the ugliest shoes, that he ordered for himself. I don't know if I should take a hint or not because he seems to continually buy things he wants when its close to his birthday. We get mad at him and make him wait to open the packages. But, I would never have bought these for him, so I guess it's just as well.

That night the kids gave him the rest of his presents, we had dinner, cake, and a dance party. It was quite a fun night of laughter and celebration.

I just love Greg's dramatic act he does for the kids. He really was very excited for what came out of that bag from Miss Emery.

And she was pleased as punch to have him so happy for what she picked out.

While the kids were grooving, Greg was the DJ/seat dancer.

Greg wanted a Haupia cake and they make the yummiest one at Costco. It was way too big for our family, but I think he ended up taking some into work with him.

Ok, so just a little bit of some mushy stuff.
I can't think of a better man to get to be married to.
Happy Birthday, Greg!

(And I can't help but laugh because I think it took like three times to get you not to make a goofy face as I was kissing you, but this was the best one we got. And it's such a smirk.)

Until Next year...
