March was a pretty busy one for sure! We had scout activities, activity days, school activities, friends, swimming which included a trip to the mainland, and family visitors which means loads of adventure!
Koa has a bunch of super active boys in the scouts.
He just eats it up every time they get to go do something fun. He loves it.

Koa is in the school dancetyme group that performs at assemblies and such. It used to be called girlstyme when Afton was in it, but they had to change it to dancetyme when they had boys that wanted to be on the team. Here is a group of the three boys that were on it this year. The first year that boys were on the team. Koa was part of history at Makawao Elementary. :)
Koa's all dressed up for Dare Day. He was so excited to go.
All of the middle schools on Maui get together at the War Memorial stadium and they have police officers, coast guard, military, the national park, etc... all come and set up booths for the kids to go to. The coast guard performed helicopter stunts for the kids. There is music, a fun MC and they learn all about staying away from drugs and alcohol.
The thing about this Dare day is that Koa got a concussion the day before while riding his scooter. He took a nasty fall without a helmet.
I didn't think it was a good idea to go because I knew that day was going to be LOUD, but he insisted. So, I went with him as a chaperone and ended up taking him home early because it was too LOUD and his head was just pounding. Poor kid. He wanted to be there for the whole day and all the fun.
It's the last time he rides his scooter without a helmet, though.
Tough lesson learned.
The Stake put on an activity for all the girl age 8-11, the activity day girls. It was centered around the temple and the girls "going there someday". At the end, they had all the girls come up and look in the mirror and see themselves in the Temple. It was a clever little idea
.
Another Scout activity. They played "live" Pac man. Koa is so lucky to have such a big group of boys and amazing leaders!

The girls went over to a friend's house and had a rice crispy baking day.
These are their creations.
Fun Run
Our school's largest fundraiser, Fun Run was held right before spring break.
I am the Vice president of the Makawao Elementary School PTA. I love it. I have made such good friends with some pretty incredible ladies and I love that the staff and teachers know who I am and who my kids are. I love being involved and giving back to the community!
I just love this elementary school!
This year we thought it would be fun to do a balloon arch for the kids to run through, so with it being my idea, I got to do it. (That's pretty much how it goes with us ladies. You have a good idea, you get to take the lead and the others will help.)
So we blew up about 200 balloons and tied two balloons to each other. We had Greg's air compressor that made it easier and faster.
Then I put all the seats down in my car and filled it up.
Drove right up the part of the field where the arch was going to be and we assembled it. It was pretty easy. We didn't have any pattern in mind, so we just had to take a pair of balloons and wrap it around the pole with another pair of balloons. I watched a couple of you tube videos to learn how to do.
WaLa! All done! and so festive!
I also, painted this cute poster to hang in the front of the school. I actually painted several posters. It was fun to do, so I volunteered. Isn't it cute?!
Em and I
This is during the dance portion of the Fun Run, which I was in charge of with Monica. We had several stations.
1. Running laps (that's where the $$ came in. Kids would get sponsored for how many laps they ran.)
2. Obstacle course by Anytime Fitness
3. Water relays. We had several fun games with water buckets and sponges.
4. Oranges and stretching
5. Dance time
So, each of the kids rotated through the stations with their classes. It is really such a fun day of outdoor activity and exercise to be a part of.
Oh and at the very end of it all, on their way back to class, they get otter pops! Aren't we the coolest PTA moms ever?!
This is my sidekick and our MC Monica.

She has previously been president for seven years, just because no one else wanted to do it. But the year I moved here, she stepped down and we had to fill her shoes. I remember that year we had two presidents, two vice presidents, a secretary and a treasurer.
Nobody wanted to take the responsibility alone, so Co-chairs worked for us. I was the secretary.
Fun Run was held in the morning, then after lunch, all the students came back out to the field for awards. We moved the arch up to the "stage" area and gave out some pretty killer awards for those that brought in the most money, overall, per grade, etc...

We gave out things like Hotel stays, Aquarium passes, Zipline tours, paddleboards, bikes, ATV tours,etc... One year, we got a helicopter tour as a grand prize. We live in this pretty incredible place and get sponsors from local businesses. It's awesome.
We bring in anywhere from $12,000-$18,000 on the event every year. Wowzaa!
As a PTA, we try to give something out every year, as well. This year we gave the kids all these hats. They were so cute on everyone! After the grand prizes are given, everyone that brought in $50 got their name in a drawing for smaller prizes. This year, Emery's name was drawn and she got this cute art set.
Makoa won for the most laps ran in his class! I think he wins this every year. The kid likes to run!Swim Team
Swim team was in full swing. Here are a few random pictures that I had on my camera roll.
This is Po, Em's BFF and her dad.
I'm a coach, so technically I'm not supposed to give hugs, but I give em to my kids. Joli and her dad...they are so much fun!
Po lane 5, Em lane 4.
and they are off... (opps Emery pulled her leg down)look at the butterfly. Go Sue, Go!!
And there goes Makoa
with some ore butterfly.
The kids were getting artsy with my camera. It's usually Brin. She doesn't swim anymore, so she comes and takes pictures for me.
March brought the Vernon's to visit for Spring Break! I wrote all about their visit back Here.
Emery got a Porge from the new Star Wars movie and this was just too cute, so I had to snap a photo.
Brinlee was "graduating" from Activity Days and headed into Young Women's next month, so they had a special night for her. The girls baked treats and Brin had to guess the ingredients and pick her favorite. It was a fun little night. Her leader was so great!
Those girls know her well. She loves bunnies!
Regionals with this group. Afton and some of her teammates went to Federal way, Washington to compete in a swim meet. It was a big deal and we were pretty excited about it.
I talked more about it back Here.
While there, we felt so loved as my mom came over with Amber and her kids to support Afton.
They came to the swim meet in the morning and we got to explore a little of Seattle in the afternoon, as well.
We all added our gum to the gum wall.
I talked more about that in my Regionals post.
And that's a wrap for March... Bring on April. The calendar is already full!!!
I really love my crazy, busy, Hawaii life!
