Finally on Maui...

Hawaii Age Group State Championships LCM 2017

We have been traveling off island to go to states for three years now and finally we get to host.
Don't get me wrong, we love to travel off island, stay with the team at a hotel or a house somewhere,go out to eat, see some sights, and build team camaraderie. It's also so nice to not have to spend money.  And because we didn't travel off island, it gives a chance to do more relays than we usually get to do, as well.

We had a pretty big turnout for our small team. (Actually our team is very large, but those that are very competitive and travel are few in numbers.)

Afton and Koa both qualified for events in their age groups. Afton just turned 13, so she moved up into the 13-14 age group. Makoa swam in the 10 & under age group.
Afton swam the 400 IM, 200 Back, 800 free, and 100 back.
Koa swam the 50 breast, 100 breast, 200 medley relay, and 200 free relay.
Brinlee swam the 400 free relay, 400 medley relay, and the 200 medley relay.

Afton's first event was 400 IM. She dropped 2.57 seconds with a time of 5:45.15 and placed 6th in the finals.

Here is a video of Afton's 100 fly part of the race.

Emery was pretty excited about Afton's medal, too.

Koa swam the 50 breast and the 100 breast. He added on both of his events, but he still did well. He got 14th in the 50 breast and 17th in the 100 breast.

Here is a video of Koa's 50 breast

Koa's freestyle relay team.

This boy put it all in the pool. He was so tired!

Afton took 6th in the finals for the 200 back. she dropped 1.76 seconds in the prelims and in the finals she dropped another 2.27 seconds. Her final time was 2:36.40.

This is Brinlee's relay team. These girls are so much fun and so silly together.

This is one of Brinlee's coaches. And Brinlee is our hugger girl!

Every year I put together little goodie bags or "swag bags" as I like to call them. I usually always put bubbles in the bags with a tag that says "eat my bubbles."
Joli and her dad were having too much fun with them this year.

Koa was loving hanging out with the big boys.

This is what Brinlee did while she waited for her relays.

Afton's 800 freestyle was up next.
Afton made a state time the first time that she swam the 800 free, so this was only the second time that she swam it and she dropped 7.67 seconds. Her final time was 10:31.20.
She swam it really well. Her first 100 was a 1:14, so she took it out and then she held a 1:20, 1:21, 1:20, 1:20, picked it up to a 1:18 for the next two 100's and she brought it home with a 1:15.
She placed 7th overall for the girls 13-18 age group.

And she's off..
I do love to get good dive pictures. Up close would have been better, but I like how we can see those who are next to her in these pictures.

And I was her counter..
Eek! Don't mess up the count.

And only a little red face after. Go Afton!

As hosts, we had several volunteer jobs to fill. Brin was a great volunteer with a sweet little helper. Emery was also happy to get to participate in such a big job.
The girls were posting results.

Afton even got in some service hours.

This is another one of Brinlee's relay teams. And they love to pose for pictures.

Here is a video of Brin's 50 part of the relay

Greg is really the King of leis. He made these sweet  noodle leis for Afton and I. He even made a pink one for Coach. Pink is Coach's favorite color.

In the 100 back Afton dropped 1:33 in prelims with a time of 1:12.50. For finals she was 2 tenths of a second off her prelims time and she came in 7th.

Here is the video of Afton's prelims and finals video of the 100 back.

And that was her final race. After that she just wanted to eat. She has this thing about not being able to eat before she swims. She really needs to work on that and fix it. I'm sure it's not good when her race isn't the first thing in the morning.

Pickle was giving her all her medals to wear so she could pose for my over picture taking.

And one more picture of the bling up close.

And that's a wrap for LCM summer season.
