May Day 2018

It's my favorite school day of the year!

May Day!

The school has a May Day Celebration every year and so far all of my kids have been in the Hawaiian Court when they were in 5th grade. Afton was a princess for Molokai. Brinlee was a princess for Kaho'olawe. And this year Makoa was the Conch Shell Blower. It such a honor to get to hold these positions as 5th graders and I know my kids were so excited to get to be a part of it all.

After the 5th graders perform the opening ceremony, introduction of all the princes and princess and dance, the rest of the grades perform dances as well.

Emery's sitting with her class ready for it to all begin.

Each year we make leis for Ms. Brandi. She is in charge of the 5th grade dancetyme group and does the choreography of the dances and the Court. It's a big job she has every year and she does it so well! It is amazing to me! (and all my kids just LOVE her.)

Here is the stud himself, ready to start the ceremony.

Makoa had to blow the Conch Shell four times. Three in the beginning and once at the end. Good thing he has some strong swimmer lungs. ;)

Then they performed their dance.

Then it was Emery's turn. They did the cutest dance!

And then it was the Teacher's turn...

Koa's up again... and he leads the Court off the field.

Then it was back up on "stage" to take photos.

Man! I love this kid! He is such a stud!

My PTA ladies and I...We were given leis and got to sit in the front in reserved seats, as well. So lucky! It was Principal Honda's way of saying thanks for all we do at the school. And man do I love these ladies, too! We have some good fun!

Makoa with our favorite Ms. Brandi!

Every year they have a lei contest at the library, as well. Koa loves to get creative with his leis. This year it was markers. Haha! (My favorite was the origami crane one he did last year.)

Then per tradition, we stayed at the school and had kalua pork lunch with the kids. Mmmm!

What a Day! I just can't express how grateful I am for our beautiful life here in Hawaii!!
